Welcome! If you love any aspect of dollhouse building or furnishing, you’ve come to the right place!
Given the wide availability of resources devoted to dollhouse miniatures these days, there’s never been a better time for enthusiasts seeking inspiration and know-how. There’s an abundance of books, videos, web sites and tutorials out there to show you things such as how to do imitate the look of stone for a dollhouse fireplace or construct a bedroom vanity.
What’s been missing for me though is a single place to turn to for problem solving and feedback on projects. I’ve found that you can’t always count on assembly instructions or tutorial information to be correct, so you sometimes need advice on “work arounds.” This is especially important for people who’ve more recently come to the dollhouse craft.
From Lemons to Lemonade
For example, on a recent kit building project I misread the instructions and made a mistake in how I linked together sections of a staircase. The glue had dried by the time I saw my error and there was no turning back. That meant I had to build my own staircase or do some serious alterations on expensive ready-made sets. What was the best way of dealing with the problem? Read my posting on dollhouse stairs to see how I ended up turning lemons into lemonade.
Another time, in browsing the internet, I found a dollhouse kit from England that fit exactly what I’d been looking for. I delayed ordering it for the longest time due to shipping costs. I would have loved finding someone online who had experience working with the company and the kit but wasn’t able to. So, I bit the bullet, placed my order, and thankfully couldn’t be happier with the outcome. In fact, the experience is what motivated me to develop this Dollhouse Diary along with my postings on building and decorating the kit house.
